[News] New European investments for the port of Ravenna
The news is of those fundamental for the world of Italian infrastructures: new European funding is foreseen for a total of 120 million euros destined to the realization of the “Port Hub 2019” project for the port of Ravenna, with a view to creating an integrated logistic system that can facilitate the opportunities towards new markets, in particular those of the Far East stimulated by the New Silk Road.
EIB and Ravenna Port Authority signed agreements for 120 million
On Monday, April 1, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Port Authority of Ravenna signed a 65 million loan, to which will be added another 25 (already approved) in the coming months. The funds – to which must be added another 30 mln financed by the EIB five years ago – reach a total of 120 mln.
For Ravenna, as the president of the Port System Authorities of the central-northern Adriatic Sea Daniele Rossi explains, “the 120 million of the EIB are part of the resources which we dedicate to the Port Hub project, for the reorganization of the port, of the worth 248 million “.
The goal of the project
“The objective of the project – concludes Rossi – is to provide the port of Ravenna with an infrastructure capable to facilitate important increases of traffic and guarantee a higher level of navigation safety. In a few years, everything in fact should be operational by the end of 2023, the port will be able to accommodate a larger ship.”
With the creation also of new infrastructures including highways, the objective of the project is to set up the integrated logistics system sea-rail, which will represent a competitive factor of excellence by opening the port for new markets as well.
