+65% Rail cargo between Europe and China in the first half of the year

In the first half of this year, train traffic between China and Europe grew by 65%. This is because the increasing value of freight rates for air shipments, together with frequent cancellations of container ship trips, are causing more and more operators to prefer rail for the Far East – Europe route.

As reported by ChinaDaily, the China State Railway Group said that the number of trips between the two destinations had registered a record 1,247 in August. Trains during this period transported 113,000 standard size containers, 66% more than in July.

New rail connections and the increasing digitization of Eurasian continental logistics

There are several new connections between Europe and China which has started lately. For example, a new weekly route has been started between Shenzhen in the south of China and the German city of Duisburg in the Rhineland. On August 18 there was the first departure of a train, loaded with machinery, electronics and textiles. (source: Xinhuanet)

Moreover, on September 5 a new connection from Hefei, in eastern China, to Dourges, in northeastern France, made its debut.

A fundamental point is the intense digitization underway between Russian, Belarusian and Kazakh railway companies, which are connected at infrastructural level to China.
